A key question within team research is how teams can optimize their collaboration in order to maximize performance. When team members working together toward a common goal experience flow together, the team as a performance unit not only improves its results, but also provides individual satisfaction for its members. From a practical perspective, it is therefore relevant to understand how team flow is established within professional organizations. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of how the elements of team flow emerge. We conducted interviews with team members, business leaders and team experts, as well as a survey of team members. The results confirm existing research on team dynamics, flow, group and team flow, and indicate that collective ambition, professional autonomy and open communication must be consciously and carefully cultivated to create the conditions under which team flow can occur.
