Flow Concepts was created to bring the scientific research on flow, team flow, and broader positive (organizational) psychology into practice.
We do this by guiding professionals, teams and organizations using science-based models, methodologies and tools. We thus boost performance, creativity, positivity and happiness within professional organizations!
Flow is a state we experience when we are fully absorbed in an activity, accompanied by a motivated and energetic focus. In a moment of team flow, we experience this together while performing mutually dependent tasks for the team’s sake. We then perform better, experience greater satisfaction and happiness, and are truly meaningful to what the team was created for.
Team flow is the moment when all team members experience flow together while performing their interdependent personal tasks resulting from optimized team dynamics.
This optimal team dynamic is formed by 11 elements, which can be distinguished into seven conditions and four experiential characteristics. The emergence of team flow is made clear in the team flow animation to the right.
Team flow thus arises from the awakening of a collective ambition that then crystallizes into concrete, challenging common goals with task divisions where everyone is in their strengths. This optimal form of cooperation proceeds effortlessly and energetically, and people enjoy moments of team flow long after.
Flow Concepts® helps teams get into flow. We do this by offering coaching, training, and developing working methods and tools (evidence-based). In this way, we bring professionals together in flow and make organizations agile, performance-oriented and of added value.
At Flow Concepts®, we believe that people flourish most when they are allowed to do what they find challenging, fun and meaningful.
We therefore connect people based on their intrinsic motivations to help them achieve their collective ambitions. We focus on the core and make it fun. The work should be experienced as light in order to be able to really accelerate together. With our expertise in flow and team development, we help organizations achieve an optimal climate for cooperation.
Flow Concepts is a network of professionals whose ambition is to guide teams and organizations toward experiencing more team flow. We thus provide movement in the right direction.
By successfully completing one of our Team Flow Training Courses, you certify yourself as a Certified Team Flow Coach of Flow Concepts®. Below we present some of those who we know successfully apply team flow on a regular basis in their own coaching programs.
Who offers Flow
Flow Concepts also has a number of collaboration partners that we work closely with. Below are our most important cooperation partners.
From the beginning
In 2002, Jef van den Hout did an internship with Dorine Huijbregts who asked him to develop a happiness at work measurement instrument. In his literature study, Jef read the article Positive Psychology by Martin Seligman & Mihalyi Csikszentmihalyi which made Jef enthusiastic about the subject of flow. Jef put the measurement of work happiness aside and focused on a competency study for project leaders of construction teams.
As an extension of his graduation thesis from psychology, Jef starts studying Architectural Design Management Systems at Eindhoven University of Technology. Jef completes this study with a business assignment for the management consultancy firm Atrivé into the motives for setting up subsidiaries at Housing Corporations. He was supervised by Prof. Mathieu Weggeman.
As a strategy and organization consultant at Atrivé, Jef realized that organization members could experience much more flow in their work. One then performs well and feels good, and that seemed to Jef to be a win-win between employer and employee.
Thus, in 2008, the idea occurs to Jef to pursue a PhD on something with flow. This quickly became the conceptualization of team flow. Mathieu Weggeman was again asked as his supervisor.
The topic of team flow is proving enormously relevant. After all, almost every professional works in teams, and the importance of performing well together while having a tremendous time is key to the success of many organizations!
Even while conducting doctoral research, Jef is in high demand as a speaker on the topic of team flow, and to do this Jef registers under Flow Concepts at the Chamber of Commerce in Eindhoven in 2010. In 2016 Jef gets his PhD on the conceptualization and application of team flow with the approval of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, and after that pretty much everything you can find on this website follows.
