Summary Thesis in the Journal of Positive Psychology

The first issue of the 2017 Journal of Positive Psychology contains a nice description of my research on team flow.

Teams today need to run well, but practice shows that teams can also run very poorly, thus having a major negative impact on both individual employees and the organization as a whole (Carton & Cummings, 2012; Hackman, 1998). This is often due to excessive procedures, policies, planning and control or because organizations establish self-managing teams and then leave team members to their own devices (Weggeman, 2007). This increases the likelihood of developing dysfunction, burnout, stress and absenteeism. So in a lot of cases, you need to offer team members more support in working together. The demand for tools to enable teams within professional organizations to function successfully autonomously is therefore increasing enormously within many organizations.

Becoming a world champion while in burnout

In 2014, Solar Team Eindhoven started to compete in the 2015 World Solar Challenge for the second time. Together with Tommie, we look back on which elements of the Team Flow Model were present or not present at what time.

Team flow: the stimulus for individual happiness and team performance

In Boom Publishers’ Handbook of Work Happiness, Jef van den Hout was allowed to devote a chapter to the concept of team flow. He did this based on his experiences with the Solar Team Eindhoven, among other things. The book has 19 chapters with 27 authors written under the editorship of Ad Bergsma, Onno Hamburger and Erwin Klappe. Download the chapter on team flow for free here.
