Team Flow: From Concept to Application

Herwith a link to the thesis in which team flow is conceptualized and scientifically tested in practice.

Research has shown that the psychological state of flow provides great benefits to people in many aspects of life, including work environments. So far, however, flow has been studied primarily at the individual level within work contexts, while complex tasks in professional organizations are often performed by teams. Studies of “team flow” are relatively scarce. Despite the recognized potential of optimal experiences (flow) to promote effectiveness, productivity, performance, skills and well-being, little research has been done on how teams can reap the benefits of flow, especially in the workplace.

The Flow of ReaZun

Flow Concepts likes to test its theories on team flow in practice. In 2011, we held an interview with rapper ReaZun of Kyteman’s Hiphop Orchestra. This band had tremendous success in 2011. All concerts were sold out. They were at all the major festivals in the Netherlands. Newspapers described the band as a bouncing gang of optimal mutual chemistry. Reason enough to find out what was happening in this group.

A Scoping Review of Flow Research.

Together with fellow European flow researchers, Jef van den Hout (founder of Flow Concepts) conducted a systematic review of scientific articles on flow (2000-2016) in this publication. The result is a clustering of existing research and a set of new ideas for further research. The link to the publication is below.

Indeed, within and between organizations today, things can be quite chaotic. How do you get structure to this and to what extent should you want it? We applied bringing order to the practice of professional learning communities in which members of different organizations try to achieve collaborations. And what is the role of the coach in such a process? Download the article for free here.
