Bas van der Molen, school leader at De Catamaran, recently attended the Teamflow for School Leaders course, a collaboration between Flow Concepts and the AVS Academy (Algemene Vereniging Schoolleiders). His experience was downright inspiring!
“The alternation between theory, videos and inspiring speakers kept me engaged,” Bas says enthusiastically. “The practical examples helped me to immediately understand and apply the theory to my own situation.”
An eye opener for Bas was the Teamflow model. “It gives a clear structure for looking at team dynamics and understanding what factors are needed for optimal team flow,” he explains. “The Teamflow Monitor is a great tool to support the ongoing development of the units at our school. It makes ‘flow’ concrete and measurable, giving you insight into your team’s strengths and opportunities for growth.”
The session with Lego Serious Play was an unexpected highlight. “A surprisingly fun and accessible way to talk about team dynamics!” said Bas. “Making things literally tangible made it easier for us to put words to what is going on in a team.”
The course offered a valuable combination of learning and experience. “The videos and practical examples made the theory lively and applicable,” says Bas. “I could always imagine how I could use the knowledge in my own team.”
Bas immediately put the knowledge gained into practice. “During the CIMO assignment, I worked out an intervention from theory and applied it to De Catamaran. It’s great to see that it actually works in practice!” he says proudly.
“Where engagement often remains theoretical, the Teamflow training gives concrete tools to get started with it,” Bas concludes. “I look forward to using the teamflow monitor in our units and making our teams even better. This course has given me tools to continue working on (team) flow in a focused way!”

In the Team Flow for School Leaders course, participants are also asked to administer the Team Flow Monitor to the teams they lead. Bas van der Molen, participant in this course and school leader of De Catamaran in Rotterdam, was also asked to administer the Team Flow Monitor to his teams. The usefulness of answering the relevant questions from this monitor made members of other teams eager to start using the Team Flow Monitor as well!
